D&D Next - A Most Sensible Response

You may have already seen this since many of you no doubt follow the blog of Kiltedyaksman - Discourse and Dragons - but just in case you missed it he pointed to a post on a blog I didn't know existed. It's an open letter to WotC by labgrrl of the UAD&D blog, a post she has titled Dear Wizards of the Coast... in which she clearly spells out where she thinks WotC is going wrong in their approach to D&D Next, and the direction in which she believes they should go instead if the brand is to survive.

She has the professional background to back up her statement and is a passionate gamer besides. If the subject of D&D Next is of any interest to you I encourage you to read her post. It's quite long so make sure you grab yourself a cuppa first. I don't particularly care if anyone at WotC takes her advice, but I have to say it's the most sensible advice I've seen from anyone so far and she's made a believer of me.

On a personal note I wish labgrrl all the best in her fight with a fatal condition, may she have decades of gaming ahead with her family and friends.

  1. Hi,

Apologies for the off-topic comment, but I couldn't find a contact email for you.

A while ago I put out an ebook of my writing, called The New Death and others. It's mostly short stories, with some obvious gamer-interest material. For example I have a story inspired by OD&D elves, as well as poems which retell Robert E Howard's King Kull story The Mirrors of Tuzun Thune and HP Lovecraft's Under the Pyramids.

I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a review on your blog (either a normal book review, or a review of its suitability as gaming inspiration).

If so, please let me know your email, and what file format is easiest for you, and I'll send you a free copy. You can email me (news@apolitical.info) or reply to this thread.

You can download a sample from Smashwords:

I'll also link to your review from my blog.

    Yours,
    James.

  2. G'day James, no problems about using the comment to make contact.

I actually purchased a copy of your ebook shortly after its release and although I have printed it for reading, I'm ashamed to say I haven't yet found the time to do so. But it is on my short list of books to read.

As for a review, normally I'd be happy to do so but long-term health issues have seen me become fairly inactive on the blog and made it difficult for me to concentrate. When things change for me however I will gladly do so.

    Cheers,
    Dave
